Cat Rescue on the Big Island of Hawaii

Helping cats on the Big Island of Hawaii; advoCATS Inc. is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the well being of Hawaii's abandoned and homeless cat population. We support the Trap-Neuter-Return program as the humane way to reduce the number of unwanted cats and prevent the spread of feline diseases.

Shelter Challenge
AdvoCATS won 2nd place in the most recent Animal Rescue Site's Shelter Challenge!   Our prize is 100 vaccines!
Thanks so much to everyone who voted for us.  We'll let you know when the next Shelter Challenge begins.

Statistics compiled by Doris Day Animal League show that a male and female cat can produce 12 cats the first year. If they all survive, those 12 produce 66 the second year, 382 the third year, 2,201 the fourth year, and by the end of the ninth year, those two cats and their many generations can produce 13,968,290 cats.

Since March 17, 1999, advoCATS, Inc. has spayed and neutered 13,186
cats!

If you use the above calculation, we have saved an unbelievably large number of unwanted kittens from being born. The determination of our volunteers, and the donations from many made it possible.

Are you or someone you know feeding cats on the Big Island who are not members of advoCATS? Occasionally our feeders will find left over cat food or empty food containers at their regular feeding spots left by well meaning people. This not only wastes food, but the advoCATS feeders time of going there and feeding the cats. It also makes it hard for trappers to trap a cat who has already eaten. The trappers always feed the colonies after they have successfully trapped at that location. At some of the locations, such as shopping centers, managers get angry at people who leave behind the empty bags or cans and the advoCATS feeder gets blamed for it. Our feeders are discreet and clean up after feeding or trapping so as not to anger these places. People may be well meaning, but sometimes they are making matters worse for the cats and harder for the feeders. If you would like to help with food or feeding, please contact us to see how you can best help the cats.

We need volunteers for various jobs: feeding, trapping, taking TNR cats to veterinary appointments, fostering kittens and answering our advoCATS phone. If you live on the Big Island of Hawaii and can spare a few hours a week you could really make a difference. The rewards are infinite and the kitties will thank you.

You can make a donation through Pay Pal by clicking the button to the left or you can print the form on our donation page and mail a check to us.
